While walking to a farmer's market in Echo Park with my good friend, Sigrid Hudson Bishop, I came across this sign that reminded me of Watership Down, my favourite novel. The sign itself is actually for the Echo Park Independent Co-op.

The perfect meal - vanilla milkshake, cheeseburger,
and mashed potatoes with gravy!

The best milkshake I've had yet in Los Angeles, where there are so many great ones from which to choose, has been at Swingers Diner, in Santa Monica. The food and service is great as well, and the location - just a couple of blocks from Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean - can't be beat.

In Los Angeles, nothing says "dentist" like a penguin!

My good friend Greg Bishop informs me that the penguin sign was originally used for a restaurant, that probably sold the kinds of food that would eventually send you to a dentist... so everything has come full circle.
