Great photo, Paul; I hadn't seen it before.

I wish Mac had lived long enough to realize that when the "void... gaze(s) back", the operative stance is to shoot it the bird (so to speak)... or at least made funny faces at it...

... if you know what I mean.

But, knowing Mac, wouldn't you bet that, in the end, he did get in a last word?

I don't think I've ever posted it before. I took it in 2005 when he was here in Halifax for the New Frontiers Symposium.

I think where some people would shoot the bird at the void, Mac embraced it, because he was always convinced that the void was just a doorway beyond which we couldn't see, but we could someday travel.

I hope you're right... I guess I was interpreting the "void" in a less than optimistic way - as a reflection of ones angst - which probably says more about me, on a personal level, than anything else.

I prefer your take on it.
